MANILA, Philippines — Tackling an exacting course as Langer could be too daunting a task even for a young campaigner but Fidel Concepcion lived to tell the tale, upstaging the Philippine Golf Tour’s big guns with a five-under 66 to lead Angelo Que by one at the start of the ICTSI Riviera Championship in Silang, Cavite yesterday.
The former Southern Utah University standout came into the P2.5 million event brimming with confidence after finishing tied for seventh with Miguel Tabuena in the ICTSI Riviera Invitational Challenge at the adjacent Couples course three weeks ago.
Angelo Que eagled No. 16 for a 67 while Tony Lascuña, the favorite, bogeyed four of the last seven holes for a 76.
Earlier, Princess Superal pounced on Pauline del Rosario last-hole miscue to turn one-stroke deficit into a one-shot lead with a 69 in the Ladies PGT side of the event.
Del Rosario had a roller-coaster round of 70.
Daniella Uy shot two birdies but made five bogeys for joint third at 74 with Gretchen Villacencio while Chanelle Avaricio and Chihiro Ikeda struggled with a pair of 75s and three-time OOM winner Cyna Rodriguez groped for a birdie-less 76.
Arevalo failed to recover from a wobbly start and ended up with a 77 in a tie with Marvi Monsalve.
