Inside the bubble

CLARK, Pampanga, Philippines — Twenty seven days into the PBA bubble, emotions are running high among the players and coches here.

Real men cry, as they say.

Phoenix coach Topex Robinson shed tears of joy and dedicated their 91-84 win against Magnolia to “son” Calvin Abueva, who remains under indefinite suspension. Abueva is with the team in the bubble but is not allowed in the playing venue.

“It’s hard for a coach to always leave the gym or hotel knowing that one of your sons is not there with you in this battle,” said Robinson.

Then there’s Ginebra guard Scottie Thompson who is mourning the passing of his “Lola” (grandmotther) the other day.

“Sabi mo, aantayin mo ulit kami mag-champion bago ka pumikit,” said Thompson. “Bibigay ko yung best ko La, para sa iyo. Rest easy Lola, I love you much.”

Expect Thompson to be at his best today.
