Eumir’s brother passes away

MANILA, Philippines — While training in Los Angeles, Tokyo Olympics-bound and newly turned pro boxer Eumir Marcial received the sad news of the death of his older brother yesterday.

Relatives said Eliver Marcial, 39, suddenly collapsed at the boxer’s home in Cavite yesterday, and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The 24-year-old-Marcial, seeking to win the country’s first gold medal in the Olympics, was offered a plane ticket to Manila to join his grieving family but, with a heavy heart, opted to stay.
