Collegiate athletes can resume training soon without getting entangled in a mess the controversial University of Santo Tomas men’s basketball team got into.
This as the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved the resumption of collegiate training in general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ areas, subject to Commission on Higher Education (CHED) guidelines and protocols.
The green light was given in the wake of the Tigers’ “Sorsogon bubble” fiasco as well as the National U women’s volleyball team’s alleged training sessions during quarantine.
For its part, CHED has issued a show-cause order for UST and NU to explain why they shouldn’t be sanctioned for alleged violation of its advisories on prohibition of activities for students.
Meanwhile, the PBA is seeking government permission and clearance to shift to contact drills. GAB chairman Baham Mitra said they have forwarded the request to the IATF.
“We’re waiting for the action of the IATF,” said Mitra. – Alexis Romero
