Knott eyes 2 events in Tokyo Games
MANILA, Philippines — Shattering Lydia de Vega’s 33-year-old Philippine mark in the 100-meter run has given Fil-Am Kristina Knott an added boost in her bid to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
Knott, the country’s top prospect in the 200m race, showed she can similarly vie for a Tokyo slot in the century dash as well after submitting 11.27 seconds in the Drake Blue Oval Showcase in Iowa recently.
Knott’s new personal best not only erased De Vega’s long-standing 11.28 set during the 1987 SEA Games but also put her just .12 second shy of the Olympic Qualifying Standard.
“I’m starting to get it into my head that I have potential (to qualify) in the 100 meters,” Knott said in the Power and Play program on Radyo Singko.
The reigning 200m SEAG champion and record holder is well on track for her pet event. With her 23.01 personal best, Knott needs to improve just .09 second to meet the entry standard in the 200m.
