MANILA, Philippines — Rising star Rhenz Abando became the latest UST Tiger to pack his bags and move out of España.

Abando joined CJ Cansino, Brent Paraiso and Ira Bataller in the growing list of players who decided to jump ship even before a verdict comes out on UST’s alleged training bubble in Sorsogon and possible violation of health protocols during the pandemic.

Abando is said to be heading to Intramuros to join reigning NCAA champion Letran Knights. Another UST player, Jun Asuncion, bid the team goodbye yesterday.

As early as last week, The STAR had hinted at Abando’s next move while UST faced perhaps the biggest controversy in the UAAP in recent years.

Paraiso and Bataller remain uncertain on their next destination while Cansino, the former UST skipper, has already transferred to the University of the Philippines.

A source said UST coach Aldin Ayo is now helping the players who remain under his wings to find a new school if they wish to part ways with the Tigers.

Abando, therefore, may likely end up with Letran, whom Ayo coached and steered to the 2015 NCAA title.

Ayo also played for Letran and was part of the team that won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999 with a unit bannered by Kerby Raymundo and Chris Calaguio.
