MANILA, Philippines — As it checks out possible sites for the planned PBA bubble for the disrupted Philippine Cup, the pro league found one prospective hub overseas in the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
The 17,000-seater arena, which hosted official games last year, has thrown itself into the mix as potential host of the NBA-style bubble the PBA is eyeing for its tournament restart.
“They’ve expressed interest, asking what our requirements are, and we’re exploring it,” PBA commissioner Willie Marcial told The STAR.
Marcial said there’s already been an exchange of emails between his office and Coca-Cola Arena commercial director Mark Jan Kar to look into a possible partnership.
Emboldened by the start of non-scrimmage practices, the PBA is planning ahead and is considering following the proven template of the NBA in Orlando, Florida.
Initial prospects include the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna, the good old Smart Araneta Coliseum at Araneta City, and facilities in Batangas, Subic and Clark.
