Obiena fifth in Poland meet

MANILA, Philippines — Tokyo-bound Filipino pole-vaulter EJ Obiena missed what could have been a fourth straight podium finish as he wound up fifth in the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Chorzow, Poland yesterday.

Obiena, however, vowed to bounce back strong in his next competitions, including a Diamond League leg in Naples, Italy next month.

He cleared 5.62 meters in Poland after doing 5.45 in a silver-showing in Trieste, 5.70 for bronze in Diamond League and 5.60 for another silver in a succeeding virtual meet.
