She made a clutch shot in front of Kobe Bryant. He called it 'amazing'
MANILA, Philippines – The late Kobe Bryant is nothing short of amazing with his five championship rings, his hours long of NBA highlights and numerous buzzer-beaters throughout his career.
It would take a lot to impress the late NBA legend. But that was exactly what Filipina Kat Tan was able to do during Bryant's last visit to the country back in 2016.
During the Nike clinic with Bryant, Tan was challenged by the five-time NBA champion himself to sink a shot from beyond the arc — if she made it, the campers get to skip running drills and if not, she will be forced to watch from the sidelines as everybody else did sprints.
Lo and behold, in front of her idol and in front of everybody else in that gym that fateful day, Tan sank the 3-pointer.
Bryant could only mutter one sentence afterwards — "It was amazing".
"'It was amazing', he said that after I made the shot... It was really an amazing moment," Tan recalled during Nike's Mamba Mentality Live webinar last Monday.
"It's not everyday I get a chance to meet my idol, more so, to show him my game when I add that opportunity to showcase my skill, I knew from that moment on that I had to activate that Mamba Mentality," she added.
Tan, an amputee since 1996 due to an unfortunate accident, did what every sports fan dreams of — leave a lasting impression with their favorite athlete.
And while her idol may be already gone from this earth, Tan will always have this cherished memory to hold on to.
"It was really a special moment because it meant that all the years of hard work really paid off," she said.
