MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas coach Aldin Ayo finally broke his silence on the controversial CJ Cansino and “training bubble” issues. But the firebrand mentor left more questions than answers.

In a short but sweet one-page statement Sunday night, Ayo pointed to irreconcilable differences as the mean reason Cansino was let go while keeping silent on the alleged violation of protocols he and the Tigers committed by training in Capuy, Sorsogon during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The circumstances of life today have brought out marked differences between my orientation in life and fundamental option of our player CJ Cansino,” said Ayo. “We have found that it would be best that we part ways and allow maximum growth for each other.

“We wish him the best of providence in his new endeavor with a different team. We expressed our gratitude for the years and effort he poured so generously for UST,” he added.

Ayo, however, kept mum on the bubble controversy.

“Regarding the alleged ‘bubble training’ in Sorsogon, I will not comment for now as UST is already investigating the matter as well as the IATF. I am fully cooperating with the on-going investigations and praying that in due time, this will be properly addressed,” said Ayo.

“We fervently hope that our government, with our cooperation and active participation, find ways effectively address the debilitating pandemic in our country so that we may be able to resume a certain normalcy where we could return to the game we passionately love and give our utmost drawing the best out of each one in pursuit of total human development,” he added.

UST, Ayo and the Tigers could be in trouble as they face violation of the Joint Administrative Order allowing only professional leagues and select elite athletes to resume training.

Cansino went on to land at the University of the Philippines.
