MANILA, Philippines — A pall of gloom descended upon Negros as one of its sports pillars, Oscar “Dodong” Bascon succumbed to cancer Wednesday in Bacolod City.
He was 86.
Bascon left a lasting legacy as Negros’ basketball leader and patron, with their famed Negros Basketball Association ruling the PABL Maharlika Cup Division II play in the late 80s.
The well-loved businessman/sportsman also served as team manager of the Negros Slashers in the defunct MBA. Among Bascon’s products were Yves Dignadice, Noli Locsin, Rudy Distrito, Boyet Fernandez and Reynel Hugnatan.
He also had his involvement in boxing.
