MANILA, Philippines — Salvador “Buddy” Andrada, the longest serving president of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) and former PSC commissioner, passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest. He was 83.

Andrada, who served at the Philta helm for more than two decades, expired at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City, according to long-time friend and current Philta secretary-general Romeo Magat.

Andrada was responsible for the Andrada Cup, which lasted for 30 years.

The retired military man was also the only Filipino to have served as president of the Asian Tennis Federation, which was founded in Manila in 1964. He was later bestowed the ATF honorary lifetime president title.

“He so loved tennis that he devoted most of his life to it,” said Magat of Andrada.
