Early leaders see action in Grand Prix

MANILA, Philippines — Top bets Petron and F2 Logistics as well as Sta. Lucia collide with different foes today, looking to stay unbeaten in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Riding high on their impressive campaign openers, the three squads loom as favorites to notch their second straight wins in this Grand Prix triple-bill starting with the Lady Realtors-Marinerang Pilipina clash at 3 p.m.

The main event is set at 7 p.m., featuring an exciting duel between the Cargo Movers and fellow opening-day winner Cignal right after an equally explosive battle between the reigning champion Blaze Spikers and new-look Chery Tiggo at 5 p.m.

Bannered by Majoy Baron and Fil-Am power hitter Kalei Mau, F2 had no problem taking care of its first match, 25-21, 25-16, 25-13, against PLDT.

But while it proved to be a good start following a bitter bridesmaid finish behind Petron in the last Grand Prix, coach Ramil de Jesus expects more from his wards going up against the intact Cignal squad led by the troika of Rachel Anne Daquis, Jov Gonzaga and Alohi Robins-Hardy with import Liannes Simon.

The HD Spikers are fresh from a great start after holding off Generika, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.

“We still have adjustments to do especially in blocking and receiving. Let’s see if we can apply those adjustments today,” said De Jesus.
