MANILA, Philippines — Legendary promoter Bob Arum wants Terence Crawford, his fighter, facing Manny Pacquiao, his former fighter, in June or July.
Reports said Arum is working on the unification fight between the two welterweight champions.
But Sean Gibbons, head of MP Promotions, isn’t too sure where it’s going, and that there’s nothing much behind the reports.
“Senator Pacquiao is looking forward to returning to the ring in June or July. That’s the plan,” Gibbons said yesterday.
“Not sure whom Mr. Bob is speaking to but doesn’t sound to be the right people,” added Gibbons.
Pacquiao is counting on two promoters, Premier Boxing Champions and Paradigm Sports Management, to set him up for his first fight since July last year when he whipped Keith Thurman.
PBC has Errol Spence, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia or Mikey Garcia to pit against Pacquiao while Paradigm could be looking at a super-fight between Pacquiao and its own Conor McGregor.
It’s unlikely for Pacquiao to choose Crawford, a vicious and undefeated fighter (36-0 with 27 knockouts) who’s 10 years younger.
Unless Arum comes up with an offer Pacquiao can’t refuse.
