Ceres FC boots up for Vietnam club
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine champion Ceres Negros FC tries to sustain its hot start in the AFC Cup with a follow-up win tonight against Vietnamese giant Than Quang Ninh at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Busmen opened Group G hostilities with a smoldering 4-0 win over Cambodian kingpin Svay Rieng in the same venue last Feb. 11. They seek to go two-for-two in the 7:30 p.m. duel with Than Quang Ninh.
“We had a good start so we just want to continue where we left, follow the game plan, execute it, believe in our strength, do what we have to do and get the win,” said midfielder Manny Ott.
Ceres also seeks to end a slump against Vietnamese clubs, having lost to Becamex Binh Duong in the last group game of the 2019 AFC Cup and to Hanoi FC in the two-leg Asean zonal semis.
