Chiefs buck two-set deficit, down Generals

MANILA, Philippines — Arellano University dug its way out of a two-set deficit to edge potential Final Four foe Emilio Aguinaldo College, 22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-13, yesterday in the 95th NCAA men’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Jesrael Liberato unloaded a team-high 23 points, most of which in the final three sets in their fierce rally en route to a sixth victory against three defeats.

“They showed heart and fighting spirit, which will be important for us coming into the playoff round,” said AU coach Sherwin Meneses.

Meanwhile, taking cue from the UAAP decision to temporarily suspend all its events, the NCAA yesterday also called off all its remaining seniors games due to the novel coronavirus menace.

“The NCAA is temporarily suspending the games for senior division starting Feb. 14 as a precautionary measure,” said the 95-year-old league in a statement.
