PBA puts new rules in place

MANILA, Philippines — The PBA technical committee has proposed rule changes for the coming 45th Season primarily to make the games more exciting and be more aligned with FIBA rules.

The PBA technical committee will make the rounds of all teams to further explain and discuss the rule changes that include those involving substitutions, time resetting, fines and penalties.

The rule changes were unanimously approved by the competition committee.

A new set of coaches comprise this year’s competition committee, namely Leo Austria of San Miguel, Caloy Garcia of Rain or Shine, Nash Racela of Blackwater and Louie Alas of Phoenix (represented by Mel Alas and Christopher Reyes).

The old committee under commissioner Willie Marcial was formed in 2018 with Tim  Cone of Ginebra, Norman Black of Meralco, Yeng Guiao of NLEX and then Alaska coach Alex Compton along with Ryan Gregorio and Quinito Henson.

The PBA plans to rotate all head ccoaches from the league’s 12 teams to serve the competition committee.

Meanwhile, the league will hold a media day for the second straight year.

The event is set Feb. 27 at the grand ballroom of Okada Manila.

All 12 teams are expected to grace the event, a mandatory activity of the league showcasing the players, coaches and incoming rookies.

Marcial, who spearheaded the project last year, along with chairman Ricky Vargas and members of the board of governors, are expected to attend the event set at 1 to 5 p.m.
