CLARK, Philippines — The Philippines succeeded in dethroning Malaysia in rugby with an unforgiving 19-0 victory at the Clark Parade Grounds here.
It was the third gold for the Volcanoes after reigning supreme in the 2005 Manila Games followed by a title run in Singapore in 2015.
The Lady Volcanoes failed to make it a sweep for the Philippines as they fell to the Thais, 7-17, earlier.
But the one-gold, one-silver effort by the hosts surpassed their one-bronze performance in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.
