MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Phl badminton team test their mettle one last time ahead of the SEA Games in the sixth Smart National Open on Nov. 17-22 at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
Nationals Ros Pedrosa, Lanz Zafra, Arthur Salvado, Solomon Padiz, Peter Magnaye, Alvin Morada, Joper Escueta, Paul Pantig, Sarah Barredo, Nicole Albo, Bianca Carlos, Mika de Guzman, Thea Pomar Isay Leonardo, Geva de Vera and Chanelle Lunod banner the crack field in the event backed by the MVP Sports Foundation and Bali Pure.
The National Open serves as a test event for the SEA Games and a final tune-up for the Nationals competing in the biennial meet.
The Philippine Badminton Association is pushing its athletes hard for a top podium finish in the tough SEA Games competitions featuring world-class bets in the region.
“To tell you honestly, we really want to get that elusive gold in the SEA Games. As a matter of fact, they are leaving for Malaysia (tomorrow),” said PBA secretary-general Christopher Quimpo as the Nationals also had camps in Indonesia and Australia early this year. “When they get back, they will immediately play in the Open as it will serve as their final prep for the SEA Games.”
For national coach Bogs Amahit, being able to get a feel of the venue and its flooring will be a huge advantage for the team.
