Perasol sacked for three games

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Bad turned worse for University of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol as he drew a three-game ban for his misconduct during the UP-Ateneo tiff over the weekend.

The UAAP, through commissioner Jensen Ilagan, announced the verdict yesterday, which will leave the Maroons without their chief tactician at the start of the 82nd UAAP second round.

UAAP house rules hand an automatic one-game suspension to a player, coach, trainer, team manager or any team official, who is disqualified, thrown out or ejected from an unsportsmanlike behavior from the previous game.

But Perasol was assessed additional two-game suspension for “committing flagrant acts of aggression towards a game official.”

“After thorough review and careful deliberation made by the technical committee, we deemed it fit that the penalty of three-game suspension be handed to coach Bo Perasol,” said Ilagan.

Perasol got tossed out of the game at the 6:23 mark of the third period after storming on to the court and charging at official Jamie Rivano to argue what he perceived as a foul not called on Ateneo center Angelo Kouame who blocked UP’s Jerson Prado.

The UP mentor was seen taking a fighting stance while shouting at Rivano before his players and team officials pacified him and escorted him out of the playing court.

Perasol apologized for his action right after the game won by Ateneo, 89-63.
