AKCUPI sets all-breed dog show

MANILA, Philippines — The Asian Kennel Club of the Philippines Inc. (AKCUPI), the purebred dog registering organization which celebrated its 11th anniversary recently, will mount its 70th and 71st International All-Breed Dog Shows at 1 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Tiendesitas in Pasig.

AKCUPI president Lucianne “Penny” Cham said the shows will be officiated by two seasoned international dog show judges, Ryu Kyongwon of Korea and Michael “Mike” Buenaflor of the Philippines.

Ryu is a member of the Korean Kennel Club and has worked as handling instructor, judge and chairperson of many events. He is the chairman of the Siberian Husky Club in Korea.

Buenaflor, on the other hand, is a licensed ring steward for both German Shepherd Sieger and All-Breed Shows, and has been involved in the canine world for more than two decades. A certified dog rescuer trained by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Buenaflor is currently the shelter manager and disaster rescue officer for the Network for Animals, an animal welfare group based in the United Kingdom.

The dog shows will be participated in by entries from seven breed groups, namely sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting and herding. The event is being supported by Vitality, Ortigas & Company, Farmbreed, Friends Logistics, UNAHCO, Famous Breed, Bully Kennel Club Philippines Inc., Land & Rail K9, Rapid Printing Inc., Achillles Serama, Mars Philippines, Shezter Joy Enterprises Co. and NelsonUy.
