MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone said he will soon decide on whether to step in as coach of the Philippine men’s basketball team for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games, adding he will speak to his family first.
The multi-titled PBA mentor is the frontrunner to take Gilas Pilipinas’ coaching reins following the resignation of Yeng Guiao.

In a statement Saturday, Cone said he is already in touch with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas about the possibility of taking over Gilas as head coach.
“I've been in conversation with SBP President Al Panlilio regarding the SEA Games Head Coaching position for basketball,” said Cone.
“I know that Mr. Panlilio and my boss, Alfrancis Chua, have also had discussions regarding the position,” he added.
However, Cone stressed he is focused on his current job as head coach of the Gin Kings, who are about to begin their PBA Governors’ Cup campaign on Sunday.
“At this time, however, my total focus is on our Ginebra game vs Alaska tomorrow to open the Governor's Cup,” he continued.
But expect the PBA’s winningest coach to come up with a definite answer by next week.
“On Monday and after talking to my family, Mr. Panlilio and I will continue our conversation regarding the appointment, at which time we will come to a resolution,” Cone said.
