Eagles eye win No. 4 vs Tams
MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo targets win No. 4 against dangerous FEU to keep a stranglehold of pole position in the 82nd UAAP men’s basketball tournament today at the MOA Arena in Pasay.
The reigning back-to-back champion Blue Eagles are coming off a heart-stopping 71-70 escape act against the feisty UST Tigers, maintaining their perfect run which they seek to extend further against the Tamaraws (1-1) in the main game at 4 p.m.
In the curtain raiser at 2 p.m., La Salle (1-1) shoots for a second straight triumph against the free-falling UE (0-3) to forge a three-way logjam with Adamson and UST at second spot.
After easily getting past Adamson and La Salle, Ateneo faced a tough resistance against UST, pushing them into a scramble, and the Eagles hope to regain their dominant ways as they go up against the Tams.
“We’re very fortunate with that win. We’re very blessed, but we have no time to really take a break as we face FEU right away,” said Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin, wary of the rebuilding yet ever-dangerous FEU which was the only other squad aside from Adamson to hand the Eagles a loss last season.
The Eagles may well be in for a tough duel against the Tamaraws who will be riding the momentum of their breakthrough 81-65 win against the listless Warriors last week.
