MANILA, Philippines — The NU Lady Bulldogs extend their historic win streak to 81 games after ripping the FEU Lady Tamaraws, 80-60 in the 82nd UAAP women's basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
The five-time champions weathered a tough challenge from the Morayta-based squad that kept the game close until the end of the third canto.
The Lady Tamaraws' lockdown defense hindered NU in the first three quarters.
But the Lady Bulldogs had a huge fourth quarter led by Jack Danielle Animam to pull away with the blowout victory.
"We had to play double time against FEU, they played so well today," NU head coach Pat Aquino said after the game.
"They put us on our backs and pushed us to the limit... they really played hard," he added.
Animam finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Rhena Itesi had 16.
Meanwhile, Clare Castro and Val Mamaril combined for 40 points in a rematch of last year's finals.
The Lady Bulldogs will face another challenge on Saturday when they play the Adamson Lady Falcons.
