Lions eye 9-0 record

Games today (Flying V Centre, San Juan)

MANILA, Philippines — San Beda shoots for a first-round sweep at the expense of Mapua while St. Benilde, minus head coach TY Tang, battles Letran in today’s NCAA basketball tournament at the Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

The Lions devoured the Blazers, 88-57, last Friday for their eighth victory in as many games.

The reigning three-time champion posted an average winning margin of 30.3 points so far this year, including a 102-56 demolition of Perpetual Help last Aug. 16.

But things could change against the Cardinals, who have won their last three games after absorbing five straight defeats.

“We’re expecting a tough game against them,” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernanez.

The Blazers will try to remain at No. 2 with a 5-2 card when they face the Knights, currently at No. 4 with a 5-3 mark.

But CSB will have to do it without Tang, who was suspended for a game after he was ejected for a misconduct in their last outing.
