MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-seven men and 26 women bowlers led by national team mainstays Kenneth Chua and Liza del Rosario stayed in the hunt for Bowling World Cup international honors by advancing to the national finals recently.
Chua rolled a 12-game series of 2733 pinfalls at Coronado Starlanes while Del Rosario posted a 10-game series of 2373 at SM North EDSA to pace the second center finalists.
Also qualifying for the national finals were bowling legend Paeng Nepomuceno, Anton Alcazaren, Benshir Layoso, Raoul Miranda, Paulo Valdez, Jayson Tubid, Rachelle Leon, Mades Arles and Krizziah Tabora.
With the addition of eight qualified reserves in the men’s field, 80 males and 43 females will now dispute the national titles and the right to represent the Philippines in the BWC international finals on Nov. 16 to 24 in Palembang, Indonesia.
The national finals will be held on Sept. 7 and 8 at Coronado Starlanes, Sept. 10 and 11 at Superbowl and Sept. 13 at Paeng’s Eastwood Bowl.
Last year, Merwin Tan and Alexis Sy carried the Philippine colors in the BWC internal finals at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas, Nevada.
