Team USA updates roster ahead of FIBA World Cup training camp

MANILA, Philippines — Following withdrawals of stars like James Harden, Anthony Davis and Kevin Love, Team USA has added six players to their 2019 FIBA World Cup training camp roster on Thursday (Friday Manila time).

Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics join LA Clippers' Montrezl Harrell, Denver's Mason Plumlee, New York Knicks' Julis Randale and Thaddeus Young of the Chicago Bulls in Team USA's World Cup training camp from August 5 to 9.

The six new additions will join previously announced players Harrison Barnes, Andre Drummond, Kyle Kuzma, Brook Lopez, Kyle Lowry, Khris Middleton, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, PJ Tucker, Myles Turner and Kemba Walker in the training camp in Las Vegas.

Team USA will be coached by decorated Spurs mentor Gregg Popovich. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will serve as one of his assistants.

"The six players we added today are all outstanding players in their own right, and along with the other players who will attend the World Cup Team training camp, will offer Coach Popovich and his staff some remarkable athleticism and versitatlity," said USA Basketball Men's National Team Managing Director Jerry Colangelo.

A total of eight Team USA players have already withdrawn from the World Cup with about a month to go before the tournament starts.

The FIBA World Cup will tip off on August 31 in China.
