D-League opener: Holdovers battle newbies

MANILA, Philippines — League holdovers AMA Online Education and BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare tangle with newcomers Alberei Kings and Asia’s Lashes, respectively, in interesting matches to start the 2019 PBA Developmental League Foundation Cup today at the Paco Arena in Manila. 

The Saints seek to keep the momentum of their breakthrough Final Four finish in the last tourney as they face off with the Kings in the 5:30 p.m. main game preceded by the 1:30 p.m. tussle between the Titans and another new team Asia’s Lashes.

Returning teams TIP Engineers and McDavid-De La Salle Araneta, meanwhile, clash at 3:30 p.m.

The Foundation Cup features 14 teams divided into two groups for the elims play.

AMA and Asia’s Lashes are in Group A with other newcomers iWalk, Hazchem Inc., and NailTalk-St. Dominic Savio together with mainstay Marinerong Pilipino and heavy favorite Centro Escolar U. 

The Scorpions are coming off a magnificent runner-up finish behind Cignal-Ateneo in the first conference.

BRT  Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare, McDavid-La Salle Araneta and TIP banner Group B with rookie teams Alberei Kings, Hyperwash Vipers, Italianos Shoes and Black Mamba Energy Drink.
