Calvin Abueva commits another violation
MANILA, Philippines — Controversial Phoenix Pulse forward Calvin Abueva was seen playing in an inter-barangay game in Rizal on Sunday, a development that might affect his bid to have his indefinite suspension in the PBA lifted the soonest.
Abueva, who was penalized by the pro league for his clothesline on TNT import Terrence Jones and disrepectful action towards a fan, was caught on video suiting up for San Isidro in a hoopfest in Montalban, Rizal and was immediately sanctioned by the Fuel Masters.
“The news is not only a breach to team policies and rules but also a stark contrast of how we wish to exude our players especially Calvin,” the team said in a statement. “An internal fine will be imposed on him for these actions. Any further incidents will be dealt with more severity.”
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the pro league is intently watching.
“The ball is on Abueva’s hand. Let him do whatever he thinks is best for him. But I’m watching,” said Marcial.
PBA players are prohibited to see action in non-sanctioned events and their PBA teams may ask the commissioner to penalize the offender.
