Daniel Quizon blitz king

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Daniel Quizon made up for his disappointment in the premier standard event by sweeping the blitz side section of the Asian Juniors Chess Championships in Solo, Indonesia Monday night.

Quizon, a 15-year-old International Master, defeated all his seven opponents including newly-crowned Asian Juniors champion IM Nguyen Anh Koi of Vietnam to crown himself blitz king while further establishing his claim as the country’s top junior player.

The triumph came moments after he finished tied for third and eventually fourth after tiebreaks were applied in the standard event, missing getting the third and last slot to the World Juniors set in October in New Delhi, India.

Quizon swept Indonesia’s Duta Cahaya Satria, FIDE Master Daniel Hermawan Lumban Tobing and IM Novendra Priasmoro, Indian Grandmaster Venkataraman Karthik and FM Belurkar Nitish and Filipino IM John Marvin Miciano.
