NCAA champs eye second win in Filoil Cup

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Reigning NCAA champion San Beda shoots for the solo lead in its bracket as it clashes with an undermanned Mapua today in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup 2019 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Drawing strength from Donald Tankoua’s 24-point and 11-rebound performance, the Lions downed the UP Maroons, 75-66, in the league opener Sunday for a share of early Group A lead with Centro Escolar U and La Salle.

San Beda and Mapua clash at 11 a.m. with the Lions facing a team playing minus Warren Bonifacio and Justin Serrano, who will serve one-game suspension for figuring in a fight in their 65-84 defeat to CEU Monday.

In Group B action, Lyceum of the Philippines U and Adamson face off at 2 p.m., with both going for a second straight win.

The Pirates struggled in their first outing minus former star CJ Perez but won just the same, carving out a 70-57 win over the St. Benilde Blazers.
