Green light on drag racing finale at BRC

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Vannie Garcia sets out for a repeat of his surprise victory in the previous leg, this time in his trusty 900-wheel horsepower Honda EK, when the fourth and final leg of the Southern Series of the 2019 National Drag Racing Championships fires off on Saturday and Sunday at Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas.

Garcia of W. Autosport Vannitec Racing used good friend Allan Ararao’s 800-whp Mitsubishi Evo to post a new eighth-mile track record of 6.31 seconds at the same track and eventually best the heavily favored Jonathan Tiu in the Quick 8 final title last April April 7.

Allan Abrigo and Mark de Jesus also gun for a reprise of their wins in the Super Pro and Pro races of the two-area national series sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines.

A huge field of drivers is seeing action this weekend, forcing organizers to hold the payoff phase of the knockout races on the second day.
