Lady Spikers, Tigresses dispute semis bonus
MANILA, Philippines — Reigning titlist La Salle and University of Santo Tomas brace for an all-out battle in their playoff for the last twice-to-beat semis incentive in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan today.
The Lady Spikers needed only one win to claim the bonus in the Last Four but yielded to No. 4 Far Eastern U Lady Tams, 22-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-27, 8-15, last Sunday, and thus dropped to a tie for second place with the UST Tigresses at 10-4.
The two teams break the standoff in a playoff faceoff at 3 p.m. The winner takes second spot and the twice-to-beat advantage in their semis matchup.
The Tigresses stunned the Lady Spikers in their first meeting, prevailing in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-17, last March 6.
But DLSU came back with a vengeance, taking their second meeting, at 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 26-24.
