MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte will grace the Palarong Pambansa in his hometown in Davao this Sunday, marking the third straight time that the Chief Executive will inspire and exhort the youth to strive for excellence in the country’s annual talent search.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez yesterday confirmed the President’s presence in the inaugurals where he will be joined by host city Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte in elaborate rites in the sporting competitions among elementary and high school students from 17 participating regions.
Meanwhile, Ramirez said both the track and field oval and the swimming pool at the Davao City-UP Sports Complex will be ready in time for the week-long meet.
There were earlier reports that the medal-rich pool may not be completed in time that could force organizers to move the event to neighboring Tagum, which is about an hour land travel away from the main hub.
But Ramirez, who is currently in Davao to help in the preparations for the city’s hosting chores, assured the Olympic size pool is ready for the event.
