ONE featherweight champ Martin Nguyen at home in Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — The Filipino people have always been described as a hospitable race.
And ONE featherweight world champion Martin Nguyen can attest to this.
After going 2-0 on his title fights held in Manila, the Vietnamese native has understandably developed a soft spot for the country and its people.
"The Philippines, man... it's special in my heart," Nguyen said after successfully defending his featherweight title in ONE: Roots of Honor at the Mall of Asia Arena Friday night.
"Every single time I come to the Philippines, I get the same vibe and I feel loved. Regardless if I'm fighting a Filipino or not," he added.
He expressed amazement at the Filipino's fervent support of martial arts that become apparent in the packed ONE Championship event venues.
"You are so passionate and you all show love to us," added the champion.
Apart from his affinity to the local fans, Nguyen also revealed that his brother-in-law is Filipino.
