MANILA, Philippines — Two-time Grand Champion and current World No. 1 Naomi Osaka is officially a Nike athlete.
Osaka took to Instagram to announce her signing with a candid photo of herself next to fellow Nike athlete Kevin Durant during the Golden State Warriors' away game at Staples Center in Los Angeles Thursday night (Friday Manila time).
"What a welcome, thank you! #JustDoIt #TeamNike," the Japanese star wrote.
"Naomi is an incredible talent to add to our roster and help drive our commitment to inspiring a new generation of female athletes," Nike VP and GM of Global Categories Amy Montagne said in a statement.
"Nike has a legendary track record of writing history and I look forward to being part of those moments for many years to come," Osaka said.
Osaka joins fellow women's tennis great Serena Williams in the Nike roster.
The 21-year-old's first official competition in Nike gear will be during a Women's Tennis Association event in Stuttgart on April 22.
