MANILA, Philippines — Local star John David Velez and Ma. Angelica Novis fashioned out emphatic victories to share MVP honors in the PPS-PEPP MCF Global National Tennis tournament at the GSIS Tennis Club in Davao City last Monday.
Velez dropped just 14 games in four matches to beat Andrei lago for the boys’ 16-U crown, 6-1, 6-3.
He proved more imposing in the premier 18-U side, blasting Nikhel Nowlakha, 6-1, 6-1, to cap a two-title win in the Group 1 event staged as part of Davao City’s 82nd anniversary celebrations.
It was also held in partnership with the Mac’s Crankit Foundation, an Australia-based non-profit organization whose aim is to help change lives and empower underprivileged communities through sports.
Novis kept her impressive run in the girls’ division, crushing Coleen Carvajal twice to sweep the 16-U (6-3, 6-2) and 18-U (6-1, 6-3) diadems, her third straight after pulling off similar feats in the Digos and Tagum stops.
