Bill Velasco Broadcasting Workshops set in May

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine STAR sports columnist and award-winning broadcaster Bill Velasco will hold his first-ever broadcasting workshops nationwide this May. He has been a broadcast journalist and producer for 33 years.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do, to pay forward all the good sports and broadcasting have given me,” said Velasco, who has also been doing corporate training and team-building for close to 20 years.

Through his TV creation Hardball, Velasco has won the last three Gawad Tanglaw Awards for Best Sports Show. He was also nominated for an Asian Television Award in 2014. In 1989, he received a special citation from Project: Gintong Alay for his coverage of the 1989 Southeast Asian Games. That year, he also received the SCOOP Broadcast Sports News Agency of the Year award.

Velasco has covered the Olympic Games, 12 SEA Games, hundreds of world title fights, and every major basketball league from the NBA, the PBA and down, and has organized international 3x3 and martial arts competitions. He was a contributor to the Asian Basketball Show and the Asian Sports Show. His sports documentaries have been seen by millions of people worldwide.

The Bill Velasco Broadcasting Workshops begin at the Southwestern University in Cebu City on May 3 with a one-day Basic Broadcasting for Students workshop. This will be followed by a two-day open Sports Broadcasting and Media Marketing Workshop. The workshops then head back to Metro Manila from May 11 to 12 for another two-day Sports Broadcasting and Media Marketing session. Finally, Velasco and his team head to Davao City for another Basic Broadcasting for Students class on May 24, and a two-day Sports Broadcasting and Media Marketing workshop May 25 and 26. The group is organizing other classes in other provinces. Only 30 slots are allotted per workshop. A discount will be given to the first five enrollees per class.
