MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine men's hockey team fell short of winning it all in the 2019 Challenge Cup of Asia, falling against defending champions Mongolia in the finals, 3-6, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday.
Despite beating Mongolia once in the eliminations, 6-3, the Filipinos were unable to repeat their victory for the gold.
The Philippine squad finished at the top of the rankings of Group A after sweeping their way through the eliminations.
In the playoffs, the Philippines dominated Singapore, 6-1, to advance to the finals.
The silver medal finish is an improvement from last year's performance where the Filipinos finished third.
The Singaporeans, meanwhile, ended up third.
