Eustaquio upbeat despite losing ONE flyweight title
MANILA, Philippines – Geje Eustaquio may have lost the ONE Championship flyweight belt, but he was as much as a champion in defeat as he was in victory.
After a surprising loss at the hands of Brazilian rival Adriano Moraes, the Baguio native remained graceful in the face of disappointment.
"I thought I was winning the fight... but it's part of it, the ups and downs. Tonight is not my night, it's Adriano's night," he said in the post-fight press conference.
Eustaquio, along with the rest of Team Lakay who had their own fair share of defeats this 2019, chooses to look forward and not dwell on the loss.
"It's time to get back to the drawing board. It hurts... but we are the people of the mountains. There is no mountain we can't conquer," he added.
Reminscent of his "you either win or you learn" statement during the pre-fight night press conference, the 29-year-old wants to take Friday's loss as a way to improve.
"I have to take this positively in order to become a better athlete" he said.
Meanwhile, Eustaquio isn't closing the door on a fourth bout against the Brazilian. But he said it would depend whether people thought it would be worth it or not.
