MANILA, Philippines — National mainstay Patrick Reichelt, the Azkals’ top scorer in the 2018 Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup, has signed up with Malaysian club Melaka United to strut his wares in the Malaysia Super League.
Reichelt, who netted twice in the Azkals’ semifinal run in the Asean bootfest and started in all their three games in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, joined the Malacca City-based outfit after spending the last five years with Philippine titlist Ceres Negros FC.
This is actually the Berlin-born Reichelt’s second time as “Asean import” as he previously suited for Singhtarua (now Fort FC) over in the Thai League from 2013-14 prior to his stint with the Busmen.
“Patrick’s experience in Germany and Thailand, as well as his international experience for the Philippines, including the Asian Cup is an advantage and we hope it can be utilized to drive the team’s performance,” coach Zainal Abidin Hassan was quoted as saying by Fox Sports Malaysia.
The 30-year-old Phl stalwart links up with local stars Shukor Adan, Raman Roslan, Nazrin Nawi and Safiq Rahim and reinforcements Anselmo Casagrande, Luka Milunovic, and Liridon Krasniqi in Melaka.
Reichelt actually saw limited action as a late sub the other day when Melaka beat Sarawak in a pre-season friendly, 3-0, ahead of their campaign in the Malaysian top-flight.
