World gamefowl expo draws big crowd

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Supported by veterans of ‘Bakbakan’, ‘Digmaan’ and World Slasher Cup, the ninth World Gamefowl Expo ended with a bang yesterday at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, drawing thousands of gamefowl enthusiasts.

World Exco event organizer Raquel Romero,  who conceptualized the event in 2011, was herself amazed by the huge turnout of the three-day expo which drew visitors from Germany, Mexico, Guam and Southeast Asia.

A contingent from Japan led by Arnel Tuncab of KGBA, Mori and Akiko of Fujiyama Sinukwan introduced the traditional way of making the famed samurai and this technique will be used in the making of Philippine knives/gaff, said Romero.

Another welcome addition is the entry of Germany’s Kampstahl headed by Andy Thiel, who heads a team of experts in metallurgy who are ready to share their expertise in the gamefowl industry.

But what attracted sabong enthusiasts most is the large array of first class gamefowls presented personally by derbyists of  ‘Bakbakan’, ‘Digmaan’ and World Slasher Cup.

Powertrac, destined to be one of the country’s leading truck distributors and Nutriasia, the official refreshment of the expo, are some of the many supporters of the event.

“As early as now we are preparing for the 10th Anniversary of the World Gamefowl Expo next year, Jan. 17-19, 2020,” said event partner Manny Berbano of Pit Games Media, Inc.

Other sponsors: Tatak Excellence, B-Meg, Sagupaan, Warhawk and Infinity of Supremo.
