Velez, Milliam Andrada Cup double titlists
MANILA, Philippines — John David Velez emerged the biggest winner in the 30th Andrada Cup Tennis Championship with a twinkill in the premier boys’ 18-under and 16-under classes at the Rizal Tennis Center yesterday.
Velez ripped Rupert Ohrelle Tortal, 7-5, 6-4, for the crown in the 18-under and rapped Axl Lajon Gonzaga, 6-2, 6-2, for the 16-under plum.
“It’s a great way to start the year,” said Velez.
Meanwhile, Aussie Crystal Mildwaters was the best in the distaff side, ruling the 18-under class even as Alex joy Milliam reigned supreme in the 16-under and 14-under.
Mildwaters turned back top seed Ma. Patricia Lim, 6-2, 6-0.
Milliam, a 13-year-old La Carlota, Negros Occidental native who plays for Letran in the NCAA, crushed Jenaila Prulla, 6-2, 7-6 (4), in the 16-under finale and scored a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Angeline Alcala in 14-under.
Exequiel Jucutan outlasted Mark Andrei Jarata, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, to snare the boys’ 14-under diadem.
In the 12-under action, Marielle Alexi Jarata dumped Jayden Reece Ballado, 6-1, 6-2, to take the girls’ plum while Chad Connor Cuizon edged Kean Sebastian Enriquez, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2, for the boys’ crown.
