MANILA, Philippines — San Beda needed to overcome Mapua’s serious first set challenge before hammering out an emphatic 30-28, 25-17, 25-14 victory yesterday to seize the solo lead in the women’s division of the 94th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Maria Nieza Viray and Sattriani Espiritu paced the Lady Red Spikers with 14 points apiece while Cesca Racraqin, who plays for Premier Volleyball League champion Creamline, chipped in 13 hits while helping her team in defense with 24 digs.
It was the second straight win for San Beda after it outlasted Perpetual Help in a gripping 25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 26-24, 15-12 triumph in the league opener Friday to assume the early lead.
