MANILA, Philippines — Petron completed a sweep of the first round with a 25-14, 25-27, 25-14, 25-12 victory over Foton last night in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at the Filoil Flyng V Center.
Ces Molina led the way with 19 attacks, five blocks and two aces as the Blaze Spikers went perfect in seven games in Round 1.
The Tornadoes wound up with 5-2 in a tie for second with F2 Logistics.
Earlier, streaking Generika Ayala disposed of Cocolife, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, to end its first-round campaign with four straight wins.
The Lifesavers drew stellar performances from Patty Orendain (22 points), Fiola Ceballos (20 attacks, 13 digs, 13 receptions), Angeli Araneta (18 markers), and April Ross Hingpit (43 excellent sets) to finish the initial salvo of action with 4-3 after a woeful 0-3 start.
F2 Logistics stamped its class on Smart, 25-11, 25-22, 25-17, for back-to-back victories and 5-2 overall.
From the cellar, the Lifesavers inched their way to the upper half of the standings, their rise fuelled by an upset of fancied F2 Logistics last Nov. 13.
“Mataas ang kumpyansa ng mga players simula nung manalo kami sa F2,” said assistant coach Parley Tupaz.
