MANILA, Philippines — Kiteboarder Christian Tio is getting a windfall for his silver medal finish in the recent third Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
The Philippine Olympic Committee board yesterday unanimously approved the granting of an additional P500,000 cash incentive for the 17-year-old.
“The board had no second thoughts about granting this incentive,” said POC president Ricky Vargas, who hailed the young athlete from Boracay as an inspiration to the youth.
“The achievement of this young man gives inspiration to the many grassroots athletes who aspire to give glory to our country,” said Vargas.
Tio is bound to receive P2.5M from the Philippine Sports Commission.
