Adeline Ancheta bags lone bronze, averts medal shutout for Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — Adeline Ancheta averted a medal shutout for Team Philippines yesterday in the Asian Para Games as she got a podium finish in women’s over 86 kg Para powerlifting yesterday at Balai Sudirman in Jakarta.
Ancheta posted a best lift of 107 kg in her second attempt to finish third behind Lee Hyunjung and Sriyanti Sriyanti, who recorded identical lifts of 118 kg.
The Korean, however, took the gold with a 115 kg lift on her first attempt as against Sriyanti’s 114.
Ancheta’s bronze proved to be the lone medal for Team Phl on a lean day after the Filipino chessers racked up three gold medals and swimmer Ernie Gawilan notched his second gold late Wednesday to boost the country’s medal tally to 6-6-6 (gold-silver-bronze).
Gawilan, from Davao, ruled the men’s 100m back S7 and the 200m IM SM7 divisions.
Earlier, Fide Master Sander Severino took the individual crown in individual standard P1 chess and led the team, which included Henry Lopez and Jasper Rom, to the championship.
