Top juniors clash in PPS Dumaguete

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — John David Velez and Alexa Milliam banner the crack roster of juniors players slugging it out for top honors in various divisions in the Palawan Pawnshop Palawan Express Pera Padala which kicks off its October tennis festival in Dumaguete City today.

Though both PPS-MCTA players are coming off victories in the Asian Tennis Federation tournament in Malaysia recently, Velez and Milliam remain wary of their chances in their respective divisions of the Group 2 tournament serving as part of the Gov. Roel Degamo-Buglasan Festival at the Praxevilla Tennis Courts.

Velez, a multi-titled campaigner in the circuit sponsored by Palawan Pawnshop headed by president/CEO Bobby Castro and presented by Dunlop, gains the top seeding in both the boys’ 16- and 18-and-under categories but expects a tough challenge from the likes of Alabang’s Sebastian Lhuillier, Revel Justiniani and local bet Gauilian Bandoquillo (16-U) and Troy Llamas, Jessy Elumba and Sydney Eroy (18-U).

Milliam, on the other hand, yields the No. 1 ranking to Ormoc City’s Corazon Lambonao in the girls’ 14-U play and is seeded fourth in the 16-U side headed by Rose Bahonsua of Siquijor, Cebu’s Pherl Coderos and Lambonao.
