MANILA, Philippines — An 11-year old member of the Wushu Taolu national team died after falling from the upper deck of his double bed inside the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine building at the Rizal Memorial Complex before dawn on Saturday.
According to reports, Johnzenth Gajo, 16, also a wushu national team member, said he was awakened by a loud thud inside their barracks and saw the victim sprawled on the floor around 3 a.m.
Gajo said he and another athlete helped the victim to lie down on the lower deck of the bed and went back to sleep.
When he woke up before 6 a.m., Gajo said he transferred the boy to the second deck so he could rest better, then went to school.
Three hours later, another athlete noticed bubbles frothing from the mouth of the victim and immediately informed a senior co-athlete.
They decided to bring the unconscious victim to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
