MANILA, Philippines — John Dizon tries to sustain the momentum of his breakthrough season victory the last time out when he goes for a sweep of Rounds 5 and 6 this weekend in the 2018 Petron ROK GP Karting Super Series at the new kart track of Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
The reigning Karter of the Year from Edgesport Racing ruled Round 4 to put himself in elegant position to keep his national crown after languishing in the shadows of VJ Suba and girl phenom Bianca Bustamante in the first three of the 2018 season’s six rounds.
Veteran Jerry Choi, who narrowly lost to Dizon in the ROK GP Senior race at Carmona Racetrack in Cavite last Aug. 12, is expected to sign up for another crack at a leg title, along with Bustamante, Suba, Raymond Cudala, Dylan Sy, Anthony Baisa, Arvin Drueco and Karl Wilhelm, among other notables in the starting grid.
Miguel Angeles of Formula E Racing also attempts to score a repeat win when he sets out as favorite in the 15-lap Mini ROK Petron XCS class against a host of dangerous contenders, including Zach David, Joharry Victor Suba, Junho Kim, Seb Kawpeng and William Calleja.
David consoled himself with the Formula Cadet Overall and Expert titles at Carmona, Kawpeng topped the Formula Cadet Novice class and Ryan Gohu ruled the Focal Ceramic Pro Challenge.
Titles will also be disputed in the Clubman Executive class.
